Christine “Tine” Fields is an Emmy Award–winning director whose work centers on
the cultural architecture of Black life. Her filmmaking philosophy is guided by a
simple principle: guide the heart to move the mind. She approaches storytelling
as both an emotional and intellectual practice, using visual language to
cultivate empathy and critical engagement.
As a director on Soul of a Nation, Tine has twice received the Emmy Award for
Outstanding Direction and earned multiple additional nominations. Her work is
distinguished by a cinematic approach that blends intimate conversation,
intentional camera movement, and carefully constructed visual environments.
She treats composition, lighting, and movement as structural tools that shape
meaning rather than aesthetic ornament.
Across her career, Tine has led projects recognized with Peabody, DuPont,
Gracie, Edward R. Murrow, and NAACP Image Award honors. Her directing
practice prioritizes cultural depth, narrative clarity, and ethical representation,
particularly when engaging Black historical and contemporary subjects.
A native of Hampton, Virginia, Tine holds a BA in Journalism from Hampton
University and is a member of the Directors Guild of America, the Television
Academy, and NATAS. She is currently developing documentary work that
explores legacy, music, memory, and intergenerational systems of care within
Black communities.
